Wasakamapiwak Collective is a group of 12 indigenous artists based in Treaty 7 Territory and working in varied mediums. However, the the thread which binds this collective is creating wearables; either in part or wholly. Our collective aims to bring a diverse group of artists together to connect and learn from one another, finding new ways to collaborate and incorporate new techniques into our own practices. We are committed to diverse representation across indigenous cultures, age, training and discipline. We believe in the strength and growth which emerges from the gathering of different perspectives and experiences. Our members span in age from their early 20s to their 60s, and are equally likely to be formally trained as alternatively qualified.

The collective was founded in late 2023 by Danielle Piper, and includes members Staci Duchene-Wolfe, Sarah Whalen-Lunn, Jasmine Piper, riel starr, Matt Hiltermann, Amber Boyd, Faith Starlight, Melissa Victor, Melrene Saloy-Eaglespeaker, sikapinakii lowhorn and Hilary McDonnell.

Our first project together was a joint residency and exhibition of Wearable Art at Sparrow Artspace in mohkinsts'is. This also included skills sharing sessions for collective members, public workshops, and opening and closing receptions. This programming was supported through a grant from Calgary Arts Development- The Original Peoples Investment Program. Our exhibition and events were met with a lot of enthusiasm, with most workshops selling out and media coverage from many local outlets including Curious Magazine, CTV and Global News.
